review 1: Let me be clear, I am reviewing THE BOOK, The Human Division, by John Scalzi. It was originally serialized in thirteen weekly installments on Kindle, which is how I read it. To review each chapter as if it were a book would make my bookshelf look impressive, but it would be BS.I am tempted to be a wise-ass and just say, "It's John Scalzi, just read it." But to keep me honest, I can say this is John Scalzi's latest foray into the world of "The Old Man's War", one of the best sci-fi series in recent years, in my opinion. The story is much what you expect from Scalzi, hard science, great story telling, and characters whom you grow to love and care about. This is the story of Diplomacy in the far future, when much of the galaxy is populated. There is a sort of cold war going o... moren between two factions, sort of a throwback to the cold war of the 50's-80's. There is an abundance of action. I think few writing today can match Scalzi for military sci-fi. There is also an abundance of the behind the scenes negotiating which the action serves to support/undermine. I admit, I read the first installment, "The B Team", and decided to wait until I had all the chapters and just read it all at once. This is brilliant Scalzi, and that is saying something. This guy could make peeling grapes exciting. As is to be expected, with this book, Scalzi makes it clear to his fans that he knows he has created an alternate world which he can mine and mine deeply, as often as he wants. That would be fine by this reader/reviewer.
review 2: A good action-packed ending to this series of episodes that make up The Human Division, but there is no real conclusion to the events of the story, but this is okay because I can only assume that there is further volumes to come. Excellent, I can't wait.As far as the 'episodic' format, I have to say that I didn't really enjoy the experience all that much. I read a bit of serialized stuff in magazines so I'm used to that sort thing, but in this case the episodes were too short and I found it frustrating to have to wait for the next one.Overall, one of the best episodes and a bit more action in this one. less

Now, that's a finale. Err, a cliffhanger? Act break? "Now that's an act break (but it wasn't)."
