review 1: A beautifully illustrated, lyrical look at the ocean. It opens with a question and an answer: "Why is the ocean so very big?" "It needs to be big to hold a story that is so very old." The book contains fantastic vocabulary as it introduces many sea species, and talks about the water cycle and how we are all part of it, and therefore part of the ocean story. I would have preferred just one double-page spread on oil spills, as the two double-page spread takes me from thinking about the horrible tragedy of an oil spill to the feeling that I am being preached at. Otherwise, I find this a glorious book. By the author/illustrator team of Happy, Sad, Silly Mad: My World Makes Me Feel.
review 2: The Ocean story is as old as the earth story. Human depends on it, the an
... moreimals need it,and the earth contains it. The Ocean Story describes the water cycle, the cycle of life, and highlights pollution, oil spills, and pollutions have on the ocean and the living creatures. Our readers will learn to appreciate the gift of water, ocean and swimming creatures. They all learn way to protect it as well. less
