review 1: This is a short and helpful read on a very touchy subject. I loved this little book and am grateful a friend recommended it to me. Leeman does a great job of explaining the why, the who, and the how for church membership. If you are looking for a Scriptural basis for church membership look no further. My only qualm with the book was in regards to church discipline. Leeman categorizes sins that are outward, serious, and unrepentant are the only sins that could lead to excommunication or church discipline. While I understand his point, I would have like for him to explained this further given it was the rich young rulers love of money that kept him from following Jesus not adultery, murder, or habitual lying. Good read!
review 2: I was given this book at a IX Mar
... moreks workshop a few months back. This is an excellent, short, readable resource for anyone wondering what church membership is, and why it matters. Though I didn't necessarily agree with everything, I was very blessed by this book and began to dream of ways that I can care for those in my congregation by casting a positive view of church membership. I am very grateful for the labors of IX Marks' dedication to build healthy churches and pray that many others, especially younger men like me, are blessed by their works. less

This book is extremely helpful in confronting western/American notions of the Gospel and the church.

I recommend this book for all at First Free who are not yet members as well as those who are.

Really good. The high view of church you hope for. Much fodder here to think through.
