review 1: Delightful themed set of stories. Doesn't get five stars, because someone else's collection of fantastic stories are never quite enough, and there we're times where I wondered quite what a particular story was doing in this collection. This is not a commentary on the individual stories, which are all very strong (not surprising, given the illustrious list of contributors), but the feel of the collection.
review 2: Strathan wanted to edit a book his 9 year-old daughter could read, and, while my 9 year-old would still find this scary, the book is clearly readable for middle schoolers. However, adults can enjoy it as well, and I certainly did. To me, the strongest story was Garth Nix's A Handful of Ashes, followed by Jim Butcher's lighthearted B is for Bigfoot. I ... moreenjoyed all the stories, though, and if you want to read a pleasant not too sexy or violent collection of short stories with the very, very general theme of witches, this one is for you. less
