The One For Me| Review

Seventeen-year- old Katy couldn’t find good luck if it were in an open pail. Her parents announce their divorce and her boyfriend, Hayden, of a year breaks up with her for long legged hottie, Holly, all in one week. Katy’s luck might as well be buried with her dignity, when she is partnered up with Avalon High School’s own bad by Liam Erickson.

Katy follows Liam after he ditches her to go to a party, where she finds Hayden and Holly swapping spit in her face. Furious, Katy kisses Liam to get back at Hayden, leaving her with a re-bound girl and new class hoe, reputation.

Determined to save the last bit of her reputation, she proposes Liam a deal, a good reputation with his teachers, if he will ‘pretend’ to be her boyfriend, to stop the rumors. Katy deals with her parents’ divorce, her reputation being ruined and finds herself having more in common with Liam than she ever imagined. By the end, Katy can’t tell who is ‘pretending’ and who isn’t.

I couldn’t put this book down. I read it in one sitting and I want more from Layla James. She wrote such a great story about teenage love and loss. The story follows Katy, who not only has to come to terms with her feelings about her parents divorce, but has to also deal with her growing feelings for Liam. What started out as a plan to dispell rumors, turned into more she bargained for. And when Hayden started to react in ways she didn’t expect, new feeling start to show. She’s trying to understand what’s going on in her world when it all seems to be crumbling around her and has to learn and understand what truly matters. In the end, she comes to terms with what she feels towards her parents, and works to rebuild her relationships with them and Liam. Just when all seems lost to her, her happily ever after comes to help her fully heal. This was just such a well written book that any teen and young adult can relate to. I want to see what else Layla has in store for her next book and hope it’s something just as amazing and feels worthy as this one.
