review 1: The conclusion of the series does not disappoint. From Srinagar to the deserts of China's silk road the McKenzie siblings seek to rescue their parents with the help of Xi/XU Sujing, Liberty Devine, Captain McKenzie and and bigger cast of characters. Great book for anyone who loves adventure. One plus this book cannot be read on an e-reader to appreciate it one must have the book and devout the fold out maps, diagrams and pictures.
review 2: A good wrap to the series plot. In fact, this whole set of three books reads like one story in three episodes more than three separate books. By the ending, however, it was really feeling more juvenile and I didn't see much growth in the characters despite their claims of having done so, and they were still launching hee
... moredlessly into more trouble. The character of Liberty was disappointing: she looked cliched but good when she first showed up, but by the end, she was tedious and one-dimensional. Ultimately, I wished that the overall tone of the story were as careful and rich as the illustrations. On the other hand, the author's an illustrator by profession, so maybe that's about what we can expect from him. Still, a good lively read and easy to recommend to kids (although not an adult crossover, I'm afraid). less
