review 1: I found the background of this story to be intriguing and unique: an book which takes place almost entirely with the protagonist in a coma. This is the first book that I am reading that is by Joy Fielding, so I don't know how this compares with her others in terms of literary style, but I found this to be a very light book... maybe almost too light at times for the gravity of the subject matter. I think that the events and characters could have been developed a bit more deeply, and that there was a bit too much repetition of certain situations, feelings, and even phrases. Also, even though the "reveal" of the culprit's identity happens earlier in the book than I would have liked, I still feel almost as though it were not much of a surprise anymore by then. I wish that the ... moreauthor would have built up the suspense a bit more and made it more of a shock. But, aside from that, it is a captivating story, and worth reading!
review 2: I absolutely devoured this book! I'm a nurse and I've always treated comatose/unresponsive patients as though they can hear me, at the very least telling them who I am and what I would be doing. If I hadn't already done this, I most certainly would have started after reading this book. What Casey went through in this story would be absolute hell. I felt many things while reading this, to include heart break at the unthinkable betrayal, anger at that nitwit nurse's aide Patsy, frustration at the hopelessness of Casey's situation, and disgust at the person behind Casey's "accident". I will definitely be thanking my co-worker for suggesting this book and loaning it to me! less
