review 1: I don't know whether it's the personal connection I have with Anastasia having played her in a drama performance that made me connect very strongly to the emotions in this book, but god does it pull on your heartstrings. I expected a lot and was NOT disappointed! The only problem is the font of the letters: it's too swirly and barely readable. Luckily the letter add up to less than 20 pages of text so it doesn't have too much effect.
review 2: So I originally got this book (and the others to complete the trilogy) for my 17th or 18th birthday. It has taken me into my 19th year to start the series. For that I can apologize to my wonderful Aunt. I really should have started sooner but life gets in the way. And in all reality this came at a great time. I've had a r
... moreecent interest in Russian literature and so this book really found it's place in my life. The writing isn't terribly great and at times it can become confusing but I really enjoyed the novel despite these setbacks. It was a great start to my summer reading and I plan on finishing the trilogy soon. It's been a good stepping stone for my own literature interests -though I did not enjoy the crack at Anna Karinnina. And I would recommend this book to those interested in the fantastic intermixed with history. Though the Romanov history itself is surrounded by fantasy. It's a pleasant read. less
