The Forbidden Room
review 1: I began reading knowing it was BDSM but assumed it was MM. I was surprised to find quite a bit of it was MF as well, although I guess in the end its MMF.Jayden replies to an ad placed by Ethan for a roommate. All goes well and Jayden moves in, under the strict proviso that he is never to go into a certain room. The Forbidden Room. Jayden has seen this room and has also seen Ethan go into the room with a woman, Lexi.Of course, as time goes on, Jayden's curiosity gets the better of him and he enters.Ethan finds him and issues and ultimatum. Be in the room the next day naked or move out.The next day Jayden is waiting in the room. From now on along with Lexi, Jayden becomes one of Ethan's subs.Time moves on and Lexi graduates, sharing one last night in the room with Ethan and ... moreJayden, where Jayden ends up making love to her and Ethan leaves the room.Eventually, due to a family crisis, Jayden is forced to leave Washington and move back to Chicago. On the last night Ethan asks Jayden to show him how it was the last night with Lexi. After making love to Ethan, Jayden leaves using his safe word. This book ran the series of emotions for me. At the beginning I was a little pissed as I don't usually like women in my MM stories. I wanted to knock Jayden's and Ethan's head together because they would not admit to being in love with each other.By the final chapter I was sobbing, it was so sad, as Jayden safeworded and left I thought my heart would break.I did not realize that this was the first part and there was a sequel. Unfortunately, the sequel is also out of print, and I had to buy the anthology to read the second part of the story, which I did straight afterwards and straight through. If you have not read this book and don't mind a little woman in the story, I urge you to read it.
review 2: I was recommended to read this book a while back and I finally got round to it. I have to say that I was intrigued at first, the characters were written so well I needed to find out more about them. However, I have to say the BDSM content made me feel very uncomfortable at times as it was more prominent than the character development. This is not a negative to the book though as I knew it would be in there, I chose to read it and in no way does it affect my rating. However, certain elements of this lifestyle described in this book are not for me. And as I mentioned, I found that the BDSM story was more prominent than the storyline of the characters, because to me they came across as two separate entities rather than one integrated storyline. Once the characters were developed more by the Author towards the latter part of the book it made them more real and as a reader I understood their feelings and actions and I ended up loving the chemistry between the characters; the friendship and the love. This is the story of Ethan, Lexi and Jayden. Ethan and Lexi have deep rooted issues and are, through each other and their relationship, receiving the tools and comfort to battle their demons. However, once Jayden enters their lives he almost acts as a catalyst and these issues are laid bare and actual healing and self-development begins in earnest. The next book in the series is: A House of Cards - Deconstructing Ethan and yes I will be reading this one because Ethan took a piece of my heart in the end and I need to know what happens next! less
