review 1: A fascinating book that juggles locations and times to build a mental image for the reader. As things come together, the story is never quite what it seems. It has many colorful characters from wicked old maids to frustrating bureaucrats. The murders are grisly, the action is exciting, the detectives are intuitive, and the sex is emotionally described. The ending has more surprises than you would expect, and leaves the reader with a strong sense of satisfaction. I give this book my highest recommendation, especially for Poe fans.
review 2: Two grisly murders across the Atlantic from each other but that are eerie and very similar. The first, in Richmond Virginia, and the second in Trondheim Norway. Protagonists Felicia Stone of Richmond, and Odd Singsaker of Nor
... moreway are assigned onto on each case. Both similar and grisly, both murders take place in a museum, and or Library. Both stump the authorities because both are impossible sites to pull off such a crime. "Where Monsters Dwell" by Jorgen Brekke is a slow lingering double murder investigation on both sides of the Atlantic. Also mixed into story is the history of the "Johannes Book" the motive on why both murders occurred. Brekke's novel is seamless in it's very detailed oriented story line, and as well as it's well thought out plot. . The story line moves along knowing both Stone and Singsaker will met up to solve this case. The characters are well developed, and contain a good deal of depth allowing them to come to life within this novel. As "who done it ?" goes it's a very slick plot. I'm giving "Where Monsters Dwell" by Jorgen Brekke 4 stars out of 5. I'd recommend this book highly for those that love "who done its" ! So don't be afraid of looking for "Where Monsters Dwell" a very entertaining read. less
