Dog Walker Mysteries
review 1: Mrs. Steinman is a wealthy elderly widow, who loves her Habanese dog Lulu. When Lulu's handler suddenly dies, she asks Ellie Engleman to fill in at the last moment at the prestigious MACC show. Ellie is not just Lulu's dog walker. Her secret is that she not only talks to dogs, but she can also hear them answer her. Ellie's boyfriend, detective Sam Ryder, worries about her when it turns out that the handler was murdered. I read the first of this series, but dropped it until I picked this one up by accident. Animals who talk to each other are tolerable, as are people who talk to animals. But despite Ellie's charm, animals and people who talk to each other are too much for me.
review 2: I'd hoped the series would rebound with #3, after a disappointing secon
... mored book, but it got worse. Still no additional character or relationship development, progression of Ellie's ability to communicate with Rudy, either by the connection changing or strengthening, or bringing a friend or other character into the equation (telling them what she can do). Plus, the mystery this time was weak. I figured who did it, and how, by the halfway point. I might have accepted this if the characters were becoming more interesting or the relationship was developing, but none of that happened. It was very flat. less

It was okay, the whole talking to dog thing sometimes got to be too much.
