review 1: Mommy's review from 1/3/12 - I feel bad for not rating this higher but like a few others mentioned, there isn't much here. We received this in a gift bag, along with some other things, from Julia's kindergarten teacher for Christmas. It looks like Scholastic gave these out free to teachers/etc. or they were able to buy in bulk perhaps. So, basically, I think this isn't meant as a "real" Skippyjon book. I think it's more of an introductory thing than anything. If there are any readers out there who have come across this and no other books about Skippyjon by Schachner I'd urge you to check out a "real" story of hers. They're actually pretty good. For us it takes just a little to get into them but whoa, when we do it's a riot. But this, for a freebie, is fine, but it's nothing oh ... moreso great so I have to give it two stars.
review 2: I have read several of the Skippyjon Jones books and this one is definitely not my favorite. It is very short and has easy words, so it would be more appropriate for Pre-K or Kindergarten. It would be a great book for individual readers and those who are learning to read. Skippyjon does some fun and cute little activities like "sailing the seas" in a fish bowl, but it is not that exciting. I would not recommend this for a large group because it is so short, but maybe having a small group act it out would be a fun idea! less
