review 1: Jules Bennett tackles a sensitive subject in this book, and does it quite well. Evelyn is a woman with a dark secret, one that she had successfully kept hidden until now. Vincent, a friend of her brother's, is interested in Evelyn and doesn't understand why she's keeping him at arm's length. Vin knows that something is wrong, even though Evie is good at downplaying her fears. As their relationship progresses, Vin and Evie learn to love and find the strength to face her past.
review 2: I made the mistake of starting this book at 10pm. I should know better considering I stayed up until I could finish it and ended up with very little rest for the next day. But, well worth it. I have read all of Jules Bennett's books and this is now my favorite and a bit differe
... morent from her other books. She writes about some really tough subject matter in this new book. Her heroine, Evelyn, is challenged by her fears of intimacy in light of her experience as a young adolescent. She longs to let go of the memories and reach for the man she has always loved. Vin has loved her for years but is unable to breech the emotional chasm that keeps him from the woman he loves. He seeks to find the truth behind the pain and fear; she fears revealing the truth and losing all those with whom she loves, including Vin.I loved that Evelyn was portrayed as courageous and protective of those she loves. As misguided as she was, her struggle to face her fears and take the chance was thoughtfully described. So well-written...I am a "dialogue girl" and was not disappointed with the language of the lovers. They cracked me up at timesVin is exactly what a hero should be in the face of the emotional challenges. He was gentle and loving....and patient. This didn't take away from his Alpha-ness. Instead, it was just the enhancement I needed to fall in love with him, too. The result being some very passionate and sexy entanglements. Add justice to the mix, and I found a very satisfying read. I look forward to Dylan's story...hopefully, next in the series.. less
