review 1: This would make a fantastic gift for new parents, grandparents or anyone that loves children's literature. I just purchased it and well, am shocked at how many of these titles I have not read. Every children's librarian should own this! It is divided into ages 0-3, 0-5....right now I am working through 0-3 and purchasing many to add to my personal collection. I found many beautiful used copies for a penny and then let the grandchild open the package as we sit down right away to read. Great fun!
review 2: I am marginally grateful to this book because this is where I found The Tashi Collection and also where I rediscovered E Nesbit. I disagree with some of the reviews here that this has a strong European/ Anglo slant because I think that's the only way it can be... more. It tries to include important books from other cultures but I think if you can't do it well, don't do it. Perhaps just stick to mainstream English and influential children's books. This book is worth a flip through if you are looking for some ideas on which book to get for an under-12. less
