review 1: I could tell after I finished the first couple of pages that I was going to struggle through this book. The story begins with Darla; a chunky, frizzy haired redneck that lives in a trailer park in the state of Ohio. As she's driving along the interstate in her jalopy, she sees Trevor standing on the side of the road wearing nothing but a hat, a collar, and his guitar. Because she appears to lack any form of common sense, she decides to pick him up only to realize he is high as a kite! When the story switches to Trevor's point of view, we learn that he is going to college to earn a law degree in Boston, but what he really wants to do is play in his band. Upon coming down from his high, he gets his first real glimpse at Darla and immediately finds her attractive and wants to ... morehave sex with her. And of course the feeling is mutual.Shenanigans ensue as they try to find a place to screw each other, and when they do, boy was it......boring. But, they fall in love right after. Then Trevor's buddy and bandmate Joe comes along to spoil the fun and take Trevor back to Boston. Oh, and did I mention that Darla is a big fan of the band and has a huge crush on both of them? Of course she does.Within hours, Joe starts to feel like Darla is special and eventually they end up making out, but Trevor is "surprisingly" okay with it. So now everyone is in love with each other and it's okay; all that's left to do is have a threesome! I mean, come on, what else is there to do in Ohio but have sex in either a shack or a dirty little hotel room? That's the gist of the book. In my opinion it was drawn out, had minimal character development, and was completely unrealistic. I felt nothing after reading this except the loss of time.I rated this a two because there were a couple of moments when I felt my lips twitching in what I can only assume was in response at her attempt of humor. I think the author has potential, but not when it comes to romance or smut novels.Disclaimer: I have nothing against Ohio, jalopies, or chunky, frizzy haired rednecks.
review 2: To me, this book was okay. It wasn't horrible, but I didn't really love it, either. I have no harsh feelings about Darla, Joe, and Trevor getting together at all. Perhaps it was the way that Random Acts of Crazy was written. This book is fast paced, and about 30% through, I found myself reading it non-stop, pulled in by the story until I found out it was over. The ending was abrupt, making me wonder why the author didn't polish the ending, but then I found out that there is a sequel to Darla, Joe, and Trevor's story. This book was corny at some parts, yet standing out on its own in others. I didn't particularly love the characters as much as I thought I would, and we didn't get to see much character development on them. Overall, this book is a fine summer read. It goes by quickly, although it is over 300 pages. My only qualms about it, I suppose, is the fact that I was expecting more devolopment and plot. Other than that, it was quite humorous, and I enjoyed it. less
