review 1: 3.5stars but I had to rate it up to four because of the hero. So many qualities in him that made him so appealing- highly intelligent, vulnerable yet strong and manly in a deeper sense. Oh gosh I just loved him! His injury added his appeal because it revealed his vulnerability.Anyhow, the storyline for me was weak in the first half. First of all, why is Sarah so angry at him? I can't stand her arrogance in the first half that I almost stopped reading. I have to applaud the delightful strange interactions between Sarah and her sisters. I was very entertained. Oh Hugh, such a great hero.
review 2: The fact that I read this in Aruba probably increased my enjoyment of this book, hence the four stars. It also helped that, as far as romance novelists go, Julia Quin
... moren is highly intelligent, and this is evident in The Sum of All Kisses. This book is far less cheesy and smutty than most unapologetic love stories. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I love smutty, but it was a breath of fresh air to read a romance novel and not feel guilty for my taste in books.Hugh Prentice is really what makes this book as delightful as it is. He is quick on his feet (an expression, I did catch that he is crippled), a genius mathematician, and just enough broken-winged, bad boy to make the reader root for him. The other characters in the book are well developed, and I really enjoyed the youngest of Lady Sarah's sisters. It is a light, enjoyable read that is smarter than most of its kind. The reason this book gets docked a star is because the ending is just average enough to be borderline disappointing, and because I am over whiny leading women, and Lady Sarah is the worst. Of course, Julia Quinn meant for her to be this way. Her obnoxiousness is not meant to be endearing- it is meant to be an obstacle in her and Hugh's courtship. She finds him pretentious, and he finds her annoying, and, as we all know, that is the recipe for a forever kind of love. It's just unfortunate that as a reader, I also found Lady Sarah very annoying and, because she is fiction, can't love her despite her flaws. Finally, I hate the title of this book. I get that Hugh is good with numbers, and he and Lady Sarah make out a few dozen times, but it is cheap and so sub-par to Julia Quinn's actual talent that I am convinced she had a much better title selected that was, unfortunately, too intelligent for us peasants to understand. less

It was fine. I needed something light and fluffy and easy to read quickly. This did the trick.
