review 1: Charming little mystery. Drew Farthering and his friend, Nick, try to follow an author's "10 Rules of Murder" in solving the deaths of Drew's mother, an invitee at a party thrown at their home, and a scientist that works for the family's company. Unfortunately, life does not always follow the rules. This sounds much darker than it actually is which is one of the problems I have with this book. Drew seems to be removed from the situation even though some of the people involved should elicit more concern and grief from him. on a more positive note, there is a love interest for Drew, who helps to rekindle his lost faith as they provide support for each other.
review 2: Really enjoyed this one. :) I didn't absolutely *love* it like I expected to, but it's still one... more of my favorite books of 2013! I loved the accurate details of the 1930s setting, and the relationship between Drew and Madeline. The mystery was good and took a twist or two that I didn't expect. Let me say that this author is not afraid of killing off characters! I was rather surprised, especially considering that this is Christian fiction...there are a handful of deaths, several of them quite violent (though of course they aren't described in an overly graphic way). It didn't put me off, though. In fact, I was sort of impressed with the author taking such risks. :) Anyway, I can't wait for the next book in the series! less
