review 1: This has got to be my favorite of this series! The other books were alright, but this one had it all, imo. It was funny, the characters were great, the story was cool, and there was a lot of depth.Brooke is a general counselor for Sterling restaurants, an up and coming corporation, and because of this spends a lot of time working. She is unavailable almost all the time and her relationships have suffered due to this. When she meets Cade, an assistant US attorney, she's finally found a perfect partner who does not mind her hectic work schedule. For him, Cade's found a woman who does not require him to be emotionally available. Their relationship was perfect, until they got too close.Brooke's and Cade's relationship was perfect. Their banter was funny and sarcastic and you c... morean tell that they genuinely enjoyed each other's company. I liked how their relationship progressed to the point that they were taking care of each other and knew each other so well. I also liked the inclusion of other parts of their lives. Cade with his family issues and how he handled his relationships. Or Brooke with her friendship to Ford and the other guys, as well as her boss. Usually these things are tedious to me, but they were too interesting for me to want to skim over them.The whole story was great and Cade and Brooke just made this book my favorite of this series.
review 2: good dialogue, good characters, good sex scenes. This is my second James book and while i enjoyed the book, i tend to skim after a while because it feels like she's using a format. her plots are rather weak and i think it creates an almost dated feel, like they were written in the 80s or 90s. the characters' backgrounds and careers seem a little perfect and shallow (even though the author clearly knows the law); similar feel to harlequin books-- partly due to length and partly because readers are more interested in the interaction between the characters. nor surprisingly, her secondary characters have a tendency to be weak also. although i liked cade's sidekicks. less
