review 1: lovely story about well read young lady who survives difficulties in Regency era. The father runs a boarding school and academy for young boys and she grew up as her teaching assistant. As they face dire economic circumstances, the father takes an offer to tutor two young boys at the home of former students. It is a complicated household living in a mansion in Cornwall, in a famous wrecking village. The heroine knew two brothers as former pupils and meets them again as grown adult men. Her former feelings towards each one are now challenged and clarified as the plot thickens. There is a subplot involving intrigue related to the ship-wrecking business and local characters. There is another subplot involving a family relative who is "mentally challenged" and secretly ca... morered for, never to be mentioned.I like the way the author paces the young heroine's feelings as she processes her feelings and reasons her way through them and finally realizes her mature love. We don't see much of that character development in romance novels. The climax comes when the heroine and hero are almost killed. Things are eventually resolved, all is well at the end.
review 2: This was the first novel I've read by Julie Klassen and I really enjoyed it. It was refreshing, and different than what I am used to reading of the Regency Romance genre. I look forward to reading more by the author. It reminded me of a blend of two of my favorite authors- Mary Stewart and Georgette Heyer. There was a bit of adventure/suspense, some romance, and a little humor. All in all a very enjoyable read. less

I enjoyed the mystery in this quaint book! Lovely read and distraction from reality.

It's a good, clean romance. It could be a little more succinct at times.
