review 1: I enjoyed reading a regency period piece from a dancing masters point of view. It was an interesting look at the time period - different from most other regency books I've read. My favorite thing about this book was that each character was given multiple dimensions. Specifically, I love that Amelia wasn't just left as the strict, overprotective mother. In the end, she was one of my favorite characters.
review 2: Alec Valcourt flees London with his mother and sister after a scandal destroys his family’s reputation. He hopes to open another dancing academy in Devonshire but discovers the village matriarch staunchly against any form of dancing.Julia Midwinter doesn’t share her mother’s disdain for the new dancing master. Instead, she thrusts herself upon hi
... mores notice, flirting with him shamelessly. Although he resists her advances, Julia finds him intriguing,Alec dismisses her as capricious and spoiled, but can’t deny she attracts him. As the story unfolds, he learns the hidden pain behind her reckless behavior, and she learns his devastating secret. They must each release the past in order to bring freedom to themselves and others.I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and learning about the role of dancing masters in the societal structure of Regency England. The writing is excellent, the story well-plotted, and the characters likeable. I highly recommend The Dancing Master by Julie Klassen The Dancing Master by Julie Klassen for those who enjoy a fine gothic romance woven with mystery in the mode of Ann Radcliffe. A bit slow in the beginning, which is not normal for a Julie Klassen book, but overall a good story.

I enjoyed the story and the plot twists but I felt it could've moved along at a faster pace.
