review 1: Dare to Love Again by Julie Lessman is a historical romance set on the Barbary Coast and Knob Hill. Julie shows the contrast between the wealthy, the poor and the seedy side of life. Allison McClare is high society, wealthy young lady. Her mother has started a school for girls near the Barbary Coast. While its not the best place to be in the day its even worse at night. After an incident, Allison's uncle hires Detective Nick Barone - Barone with a long "e". Nick and Allison started off on the wrong foot. Each expecting the worse from the other. Allison may be spoiled, throws a tantrum; however, she is loyal, independent, more courage than is good for her, stubborn and hard headed. Nick is also stubborn, hard headed, loyal and they strike sparks off one another. T... moreheir is humor, new friendships, secondary romance, love and forgiveness. Faith plays a strong part in their lives. Nick and Allison's uncle can't stand each other and more sparks fly. This is the first time I've read a book by Julie Lessman. She's as good as I've heard she was. Several readers at the book store recommended her. I'm glad they did.I received this book through Revell publishing and Book Club Network to read, review and leave my honest opinion. I enjoyed this book. Especially part of the secondary romance.

You will find intrigue in Chinatown, opium, plenty of unsavory characters and romance.Allison McClare, the heroine in our story is a feisty, independent woman with a temper to match that of Detective Nick Barone, her nemesis from page one. The two become an unlikely pair as Allison flaunts danger by her desire for a cable car ride after working late.While there are serious sides to this book, the sparring between Barone and Allison kept me wondering what they would say or do to each other next! If you like colorful surroundings and plenty of things going on to keep your interest, you will enjoy Dare to Love Again. less
