review 1: When I read book one, I was torn between wanting to read book two or not. I was not 100% sold on the first book, but I decided to give book 2 a chance. The beginning of this book started out better then I expected. In fact, the first chapter or two I felt should have actually been in book one and it would have made a lot of sense. The legend on the Life's Blood would have been good to know ahead of time.I can understand why a lot of people enjoy this book. It is a very easy read. Unfortunately for me, there was not enough depth to the story or the characters and I had a very hard time dealing with her being so fickle between the guys. How do you fall in love with 4 guys in that short of a period and have to figure out how to make a life decision? Crushes maybe, but not... more love. And can someone explain to me how you remove the water in a moat and replace it with Holy Water???? I hope that everyone enjoys the series and that books 3 and up keep you entertained. I'm stopping with two.
review 2: *-I am really glad that I stuck with this series. I wasn't too sure about the first book. I didn't feel totally involved in the romantic part of the story which for me is a big sell of a book. This book takes place immediately after the first book. Kalina is captive at Octavius' house along with Jaeger and Stuart. The book opens with the discovery that Aaron is not really dead but has been captive of Octavius all this time. Kalina, Jaeger, and Aaron escape temporarily but Stuart is left behind. As Jaegar and Stuart try to go get Aaron, a bargin is struck with Octavius who makes a deal with the brothers and Kalina. The brothers will be held in a nice room with plenty of vampire wine. Kalina will give Octavius a week to get to know him. Octavius takes her to Rome and Paris were surprisingly she falls in love with him. Honestly, I wanted to hate Octavius and I thought--"What another guy?"! But Gow wins me over with the descriptions of their interactions. There is much else going on as they go to meet the Consortium and another totally evil vampire Mal descends into the storyline. Octavius proves his love and helps protect Kalina. The catch is that Kalina truly loves Octavius but if she lets him feed he will turn human and therefore not be strong enought to protect her from the evil powerful vampires. Mal almost kills him as he tries to free Kalina and he is concerned that in order to protect her he needs to send her away from him. I just wanted him to stay with Kalina and protect her but not drink. Instead, he sends her home with Stuart to protect her and stays in Europe to hunt Mal and free Aaron and Jaeger. I liked this book best so far. I think I really identified with Kalina's feelings about the guys dispite getting irritated at too many choices. But this is exactly how Kalina feels, so I salute Gow for making feel Kalina's confusion, frustration, and love. less
