review 1: Same old song and dance. It's a bit Twilight meets Buffy with a side of Sookie Stackhouse. I'd give this book 3 and 1/2 Stars. It was engaging enough that I will pick up the rest of the series but nothing original. Good summer read because it is light and quick. I am still trying to figure out why 1st place in the horror fiction catagorie.....But the book is only $3 on Amazon (Kindle version) so it's worth it. I def would not have paid full price for the actual book.
review 2: Okay, I'm a fan of Kailin Gow, I preference this review with that statement because I want you to know I enjoy her Bitter Frost series. I actually enjoyed this book. However, the impending "but"...I found the writing to be somewhat juvenile; the story line though a basic vampire falls f... moreor human in this case (slayer) human falls for vampire but also has feelings for another who just happens to be...well *spoiler alert* werewolf...Can't say we haven't heard this story before although the twist is the loss of family and friends and weird acceptance by the townsfolk that weird stuff can just go on is beyond me.Briony seems at times flighty, and courageous although that might not be the best description. She falls for the cute boy Fallon (vampire) discovers what he is and goes out with him any way...Then there is Kevin the hot guy who comes into her workplace the Diner all everyday and saves her life...(see spoiler) and then it kind of comes apart from there..(there is a twist here you'll have to watch for it; it is actually what makes this story a wee bit different)The vamps are out to get her but the motive isn't clear till the end. The vamps are out to get Fallon too because he spared her oh yeah and they really don't like werewolves...Any way I'm reading the sequel because of the abrupt ending and I'm such a sucker I'll probably read the rest in the series because I can't help myself. But if you are looking for a good solid story that will draw you in and keep you like some of the recent books I've reviewed this isn't going to be it.Again I end with I enjoy Kailin Gow and will read more of her works just wish this one had been one of the better ones. less
