review 1: Kaje Harper does slow burners really well and this book is no exception. There was an interesting mix of new and familiar werewolf romance lore which created a unique shifter romance experience for the reader. I loved that the lust-at-first-sight aka the insta-mate bond trope was completely thrown out. Eventhough the story reads like a slow burner, the relationship between Simon and Paul developed quite quickly by real world standards. They got together in less than a month! Even so, it felt like the relationship had time to develop but there were some nods acknowledging the quickness of their bond.Overall, an enjoyable and somewhat unique shifter romance.
review 2: This veterinary technician gives this book two thumbs up and a hearty 'Hell, yeah!'! I would have
... more really enjoyed the book if Paul's profession was anything else, but the fact that he is a veterinarian earns it extra love points. It also gets extra respect and appreciation points for being rather shockingly realistic. Ms. Harper appears to have spent some time in the industry. If not, she has done some really effective research. If you have never worked in the veterinary field, you may read about Paul's no-good, very bad day just before the halfway point and think it is artistic license, or hyperbole. Trust me, it isn't. That day happens in any and every vet clinic with far more frequency than I like to think about. Likewise, Paul's utter devotion and focus are pretty common, especially among those vets who are trying to run/build their own practice. Ms. Harper seems to specialize in long, satisfying reads, and I am quite excited to move on to the next volume in this series. less
