review 1: I wasn't sure what I'd get at first. The plot started pretty sad, then was at a happy medium where there were normal, expected events and then ones which gave different insight. The writing style and switching from 2003 to 1979 were confusing at first, but easy enough to adjust to. The mystery element didn't seem to pick up until the second half of the book. Maybe that was just me though. I really liked the description of the mothering in both times, as well as the realistic display of woman to woman politics and the removal of men from the SAHM world.
review 2: I rarely give a book two stars. I will either end up not finishing it or try to find something good about it. Matter of fact it should be one star. There was no real story. Just jumbled days going by,
... morea lost infant, a selfish affair and not one like able character. Why did I finish? Hoping for closure about Laura Loomis and Francie, thinking thy were connected. Nothing really connected. It could have been such a great book, so much potential but it fell flat for me. Sadie did not have any emotions. She had so much turmoil but never expressed it. She used people and I did not like her. Maybe because I am a mother, I could never do eat she did without feeling something!!! Especially guilt! Ugh, sadly this just was not a good read. less
