review 1: Vanessa has never read Jane Austen, but is doing a PR campaign for a Mr. Darcy-type from England, who has befriended her aunt, a die-hard Austin fan & founding member of a large club dedicated to Jane Austen. She is quickly smitten with Julian & the feeling seems mutual. Through being involved with this club, she gets the Austin bug & does eventually go to an event in Bath, England. This book keeps you guessing as to whether Vanessa will end up with Julian, or Chase, a Johnny Depp/Captain Jack look-alike, who seems also to have a crush on Vanessa & keeps popping up in her life. There are also a couple of Vanessa's quirky friends, that add humor & reality to her relationships & adventures. The author keeps you guessing until close to the end. I really enjoyed reading ... morethis!
review 2: I was expecting a fun piece of Jane Austen themed chick-lit more along the lines of Bridget Jones. This book however, just doesn't make much sense. The characters motivations and emotions often seem misdirected (why does Vanessa care that Lexi slept with some clients years ago? Why is it so important that Julian is a friend of her aunt's, and is therefore untouchable? Why does Julian invite Vanessa to Bath if he had a fiancee?). The book is also rather long and drawn out, but the wrap up consists of only a few paragraphs. Besides that, the author's writing style is rather annoying, as every other page or so the narrator directs questions to the reader and uses exclamation points excessively! less
