review 1: Rose Lovell and her father have lived a life on the road for as long as Rose can remember. This kind of life does not lead to many friendships but that all changes when they move to Leonora and Rose meets Pearl. Pearl is an effervescent person with more energy that Rose can imagine but Pearl is the first real friend Rose has had and she relishes the experience. Pearl convinces Rose that she needs to get a dress for the annual harvest festival but Rose has no money. The only option is to ask Edie Baker, the suspected witch of the town to make Rose a dress for the festival. While Rose helps Edie construct the dress, Rose hears stories about Edie's past that leads Rose and Pearl to a defining moment when friendships are tested and life and death decisions are made. The ... morebook keeps you guessing until the end as to whodunnit and has another surprise for the reader on the very last page.
review 2: At first it took a while to get into the story because the beginning is very vague and the alternating from past to present narrative was confusing. Once it started to all come together I was able to understand the story line more clearly. The writing was very descriptive and it was easy to picture vividly the setting and other surroundings. I enjoyed the characters as well as the plot twist. This was a captivating mystery story, and found this book hard to put down. Its unlikely for me to find a book that keeps me in suspense until the end, but this one certainly did. less
