review 1: Wow, this book was pretty nifty. There were shades of Picnic at Hanging Rock and The Glass Slipper (with Leslie Caron) in it. Mostly Picnic at Hanging Rock in that intoxicating, dreamlike, atmospheric way. I picked this up at the library thinking it was gonna be a fluffy, girl book like Wish or Wishful Thinking by Alexandra Bullen. Nooooooo, that is SO not this book. There are stories within stories (meta stories? what is this genre even called?) and the stories are all lovely and heartbreaking. I read one review that said something like, "Oh my gosh, NOTHING happens in this book and it just drags and drags. Bleeeeech." Honestly, I couldn't tell if it was slow-moving or not because I was just so into Foxlee's writing it made me want to savor the entire thing, like a delici... moreous, single piece of good chocolate.
review 2: Straight 4. This was a marvelous piece of writing. The storyline was rich, the characters were rich, the setting was marvelous. I never wanted to put it down. All along I loved Rose Lovell and Edie Baker. Edie and her rich hidden hut and own little Paradise was such a wonderful addition to the book. It was a sad, tragic story that made me feel as I read. Foxlee keeps the reader on edge and contemplating whether or not Rose is the murdered girl. MARVELOUS BOOK! less
