review 1: I had been reading the series for a while, and had not finished this particular novel. After beginning to read, I started remembering my love for the series, but also how difficult it would be to summarize briefly. Darman and Niner are sent to kill all remaining jedi, compromising Kad’s, Darman’s son, safety. A deal is made between Skirata and Altis: Kad, along with two other jedi, are traded; Darman plans to eradicate all jedi for Kad's sake.“ I was raised to believe I was a soldier for the light, defender of the oppressed, a righter of wrongs. But...[others] saw me as...a monster. And that breaks my heart." I like this quote because it shows how the opinion of a loved one can change one's perspective of themselves. It shows how powerful words really are. Traviss' wr... moreiting style was necessary to understand the plot, but it could be extremely confusing at times. The multiple changes of characters, knowing what they have yet to find out was frustrating, however entertaining at times. I would not recommend this book, but instead recommend the first book. I imagine it would be very confusing to start the series with the last published title.
review 2: This book needed to be read to understand the transition from the GAR to the 501st following the issuance of Order 66. It gives us a look into the despair, lack of comradeship, and leadership within the Empire as well as letting readers know what happened to Niner and Darman as they cope with their individual losses behind enemy lines.Unfortunately, the series was retconned so the author never followed up with a sequel and the ending, while not as bad of a cliff hanger as Order 66, did not leave readers with a feeling of closure. less

The series is fun as far as light reading goes. I am a Star Wars fan of course.
