review 1: I thought this book started out great, with instant and believable conflict between hero and heroine due to a believable back story--and the back story was really the star of this book, come to think of it. The heroine is an identical twin, and she's always been the irresponsible one. She left New Zealand for New York, and is back for a visit when circumstances and chance combine in completely implausible yet fun ways such that she feels obligated to impersonate her twin.I was definitely not crazy about the level of deception in the book--I didn't pay much attention to the premise when I bought it, because I really enjoyed two previous books by Karina Bliss. Everybody has different things that float their boat, though--I love a good marriage of convenience story, for examp... morele, and will forgive just about every kind of implausibility that gets us there. Which is to say, if you liked that goofy movie with Hayley Mills, this book might be right up your alley. But back to the back story. Ultimately the story was not so much about the romance (hero was pretty forgettable) or even the impersonation as it was about the heroine learning more about herself--that maybe the roles the twins had found themselves in were not actually representative of who they were.
review 2: I love Ms. Bliss's writing, but I wasn't in love with this book. I liked it though, and am looking forward to the next one in the series. The story between Merry and Viv and the circumstances that result from their twin swap tkae up the majority of the book. This was funny and endearing and showed a lot about Viv and a good amount about Ross as they dealt with the day to day problems that resulted from suddenly assusming someone else's life. and there was a lot about Ross's career that just seemed to end, not really come to any kind of resolution.I would have liked more to the relationship develoment of Ross and Viv. I thought the events at the end came way too fast and left a lot of unasnwered questions. less
