review 1: Tengo sentimientos compartidos sobre esta historia. Me llamó la atención y me gustó el principio. Pero luego cambié de opinión. No es un libro malo, pero tampoco uno excelente. Aprecié las descripciones, me divertí con las comparaciones con referencia al mundo marino, y esto es todo. En el momento en que (SPOILER) el policía huye ante la transformación de la Sombra, empecé a ponerme nerviosa y la trama se me hizo poco creíble. Otros puntos flojos son las descripciones en exceso y la escasez de los diálogos. Ty tiene poca personalidad, necesitaba ser presentado a fondo y Gemma no me dijo absolutamente nada. Es un libro políticamente correcto escrito, pero sin chispa. Con todo el respeto, la autora desperdició un argumento original. No me parece una novela juve... morenil, sino una historia para niños. Estoy segura de que podría salir una película mucho mejor.
review 2: Another book club pick but this time for middle school (grades 6-8). I REALLY liked this book and so did the teens. This is a post-apocalyptic time period with people living in either the very crowded land on the "Topside" or under the water in undersea communities. The book opens by letting the reader know that the East Coast is underwater as the hero, Ty is looking to spot the Statue of Liberty in a deep trench. There is adventure, mystery, action, strong male & female leads and lots of room for discussion. This book reminded me of one of my absolute 5-star favorites, the Airborn series by Kenneth Oppel except that Airborn takes place in the sky rather than the sea. I would definitely read the sequel and the book club teens plan to also. less
