review 1: Second in the Cold Magic series. I liked this one a bit less than the first one. It felt a little long. There was plenty of action, then there was a sort of lull in the middle where there was some courting going on, but only in order to lead to further misunderstanding and more sexual tension or some such thing, and that got a little old. Ended with a major plot twist and the idea that there is a hidden force (more malevolent than benevolent) governing everything and that all are enslaved to that force. I anticipate the third book (longer than ever) to be a revolutionary tome in which all and sundry will find a way to free themselves.
review 2: Despite the high rating, some reservations. The main character's actions in this seem rather inconsistent with her cha
... moreracter in the previous book (getting drunk frequently, sleeping with a random guy she hardly knows, etc). Additionally, she's cursed with a spell/binding that will only allow her to answer a question with a question....this goes on for well over half the book. Way too long, it's extremely annoying to read and it serves to make her seem far less mature than she is. But Elliott is a fantastic storyteller, the world-building is wonderful, and I enjoy (mostly) the characters, hence the 4 stars. less
