review 1: what the hell am I reading?! Ok, taking a moment to read between the lines (and skipping some truly horrific poetry...why do authors do this, like forcing fiction readers to read the margins of your 7th grade notebook), the author is saying a teenaged girl who makes a mistake in judgement (like giving her virginity to the popular jock, who has a girlfriend) has sold her soul, and becomes a totally different person inside, one who had her heart ripped out by the girl who made the choice. Emo, melodramatic, and not at all empowering. What about picking yourself up, dusting yourself off, and learning from your mistakes? The heart gets injured, not ripped out. All of this slightly supernatural nonsense boils down to 'Ugh, I wish I hadn't fucked him but I can't take it back... more!'? Maybe I'm wrong; I'm only on page 64. Great premise - horrible execution.
review 2: Easily the best book I've ever had the pleasure of reading. I've never had a book capture my attention so intently. Every chapter, every page, every word held a sort of spell over my head. I didn't finish this book quickly, but savored every word and emotion. I felt as though I was the character, and held my own sense of confusion, guilt, pain, HUNGER. Quinn's writing style is definitely something else. less
