review 1: I want my future child to be like Marty McGuire. Maybe without the worms.The second book with Marty, this one about Marty having to "save the world" with a class project. Some kids plant petunias, others work toward recycling, but Marty is thinking compost and worms, to predictably funny results.The book is fun, inoffensive, and strikes the perfect balance between informative and interesting. If it made me want to start a compost bin, I can only imagine what it would do for the right kid who picks up this book and starts those wheels turning.
review 2: This book is a good intermediate step up from the Junie B. Jones books. It has the advantage of having proper grammar - which as a teacher I consider a plus! The story is simple; explores a little science; dis... moreplays writing skills in Marty's journal entries. It contains a lot of things a teacher could launch lessons from. It feels "third grade", but I'd definitely suggest it to girls at the beginning of fourth grade! Solid, easy to read chapter book with plenty of pictures to support comprehension! less
