review 1: While this book was a very satisfying read, it was hard to believe that the hero was just 20 and as inexperienced (tho not a virgin) as he's supposed to be given how he behaves. It was also hard to believe that in just 3 years he would have become the accomplished gentleman he is presented as.Similarly its hard to believe that the heroine went through 7 years of prison and ended up as inexperienced as she comes across. And somehow I never quite got caught up in their story.
review 2: To Seduce an Angel by Kate MooreHistorical Romance -Sept. 6th, 20114 starsEmma Portland is being blackmailed. In return for not getting hanged for murder, she must spy on Kit Jones, the Marquess of Daventry, for the Duke of Wenlocke. The Duke is actually Kit’s own grandfather, bu
... moret because his father married an infamous London courtesan in secret, the Duke refused to acknowledge Kit. As the years passed, the Duke’s anger and hatred grew. He schemes to use Emma as a spy and a whore (if necessary) to know more about Kit and plot his murder. Kit, in a whim, decides to hire Emma as a tutor to his wards, ex-pickpockets and orphans of London. But he feels that is something suspicious about her. For nothing about Emma is real, perhaps not even her name. Can Kit trust her despite all that? Will Emma cause Kit harm? This plot has a dreamy, surreal feeling to it. Everything seems gauzy and uncertain, which totally fits the mood and atmosphere. There’s an air of mystery about Emma. Who is she? What is she running from? A lot about her doesn’t fit, and the ending which reveals her real identity has a neat and satisfying twist to it. Strangely, despite the huge difference in personality between her and Kit, I can see why they fit together. Kit used to be the leader of a gang of pickpockets in London. He is barely tamed and runs wild throughout his newly acquired estate. Even though Emma is not quite who she is, he sees through to the real, innermost her. He understands that appearances can be deceiving, which makes the romance between the two of them very sweet and tender. Mysterious and strangely romantic, this Regency romance is a solid read with two fascinating and unconventional characters.Reviewed by Pauline from the Bookaholics Romance Club less
