review 1: The Game and the Governess by Kate Noble could've been a great read, but unfortunately, did not live up to the great premise it provided. It is about a bet that Ned, the Earl of Ashby, made with his friend and secretary, John Turner. That they will switch places and make a well-bred woman fall in love with Ned (being Turner). The story, I thought, was very slow moving. It could've done without a lot of it and still would've gotten the story out. That being said, it had its good moments when Ned would spend time with Phoebe. It was nice seeing their attraction to one another and seeing them falling in love. This book was so long-winded that I ended up speed reading through most of it. I feel bad as it really had potential. Two and a half stars for The Game and the Governess... more by Kate Noble. review 2: With a very slow start setting up for a future series and some unfinished story lines I had a difficult time with the begging of the book and continuing it at times. While I adored the character of Phoebe and appreciated that Ned's character developed some virtues, I confess, I struggle to enjoy books based on lies and cruelty. So even though the writer is excellent at writing the actual words the premise was not one that I could really get into like I had hoped. That said, I am sure that many will enjoy this novel. less
