review 1: An enjoyable, biography of Victoria as princess and young queen, preceded with the story of Princess Charlotte, who was supposed to have even the heir to the throne. Author Williams does a credible job of weaving fine historical research with tidbits of Royal life that keep the general reader engaged. I especially liked how the author wove in facts about nineteenth century diet, child rearing, medicine, and understandings of female sexuality into the plot. She helps the reader place baffling actions into the context of upper class English life without being pedantic.
review 2: This was interesting but at times a little redundant and boring. I learned a lot though so it was worth it. It's very compelling in the beginning about the life and times of Princess C
... moreharlotte. There was a lot I didn't know that I thought I knew about the whole Regency period. It was a challenging time to be alive! They would probably say the same thing if they saw our day! It's worth the read if you are really interested in this monarch and the events in this historically significant period. less
