review 1: I could not finish this book. It's not that long, and I was reading it for a book challenge, so I kept just trying to get through it. But, I just couldn't take any more. Bri is a small town librarian who hasn't had a date since she moved to town. Her BFF sets her up on a blind date with her boyfriends brother, Air Force pararescuer Ryan. Due to Bri's lack of self confidence, she mistakes the look Ryan gives her when he picks her up for their date, and becomes an absolute BITCH to him. When she starts insulting him, he gives it right back, making him a big JERK! It turns out that even though they don't like each other, they are turned on by each other, and every interaction ends up in some type of sexual situation. It just got so tiring with all the bickering and in... moresults and then the tearing off of clothes - I had to give up at chapter 8.
review 2: I really was looking forward to reading this book when I read the description I was predisposed to loving this book. I guess what went wrong with the premise of the book was the heroine. God how can a person be so argumentative. I found her cold, indecisive and manipulative. This game she was playing the Hero of "touch me, no don't touch me" or how about when Ryan looked at her and because he found her attractive he could not say a word, she interpreted that as he must find her mousy and unattractive. Right from the very first date, she was argumentative, this went on and on through 50% of the story, talk about kicking a horse when it's down. Pathetic. The premise of the story is about Brianne Nave, doing her friends a favor by going on a blind date with one of their brothers home on leave from the Air Force. She didn’t expect someone so perfectly gorgeous being a mousy librarian—totally not in this man’s league. And judging by his odd reaction when she opens the door, he knows it, too. Air Force Pararescuer Ryan Flannery avoids his hometown at all costs. He’s not thrilled about the date until he’s shocked silent by the prickly little librarian’s sweet curves and kissable lips…and her smart mouth. But then an argument leads to a kiss that spirals out of control. How can two people have so little chemistry outside the bedroom when they fit together so perfectly in it? When their friends strand them in a cabin to "work things out," Bri’s not sure whether to kill him or put the industrial-sized box of condoms they find to use. Bottom line—Ryan’s career military and hates the tiny town she loves. He’ll leave, just like everyone else in her life. And if she’s foolish enough to give him her heart, he’ll take it with him.Now I have read wonderful books where the heroine in the story was described as "prickly" and a spitfire but have to tell you the author missed the mark on this one by dragging her negative attitude a bit to far. I also have read better romances where one of the main characters in the story has abandonment issues they were fighting to overcome. I gave this story three stars because once the heroine stopped acting like a self centered 15 year old with little or no apathy to anyone but herself it was good. Here is a clue to Ms. Robert's, it is not attractive having a grown adult acting like a teenager. You miss the mark with this book. less
