review 1: 5***** Wonderful white lord. This is another wonderful historical romance from Kathryn Le Veque. Alixandrea is being sent by her uncle to marry her betrothed. Matthew has been avoiding the marriage for ten years. He just doesn't want to get married. The story is set in the time of the war of the roses. Matthew is one of King Richard's most loyal knights. Alix is travelling with four hundred soldiers who are to join Matthew's. Alix and Matt have never met but she has heard tales all her life about the wonderful man her husband to be is. Matt takes one look at her and decides he was wrong to put the wedding off so long. What neither of them know is her wedding is to be a trojan horse type event. In this book we have lots of political intrigue. Family tension, adventure and a... morebove all a beautiful love story. I am now ready to readThe book that Kathryn is releasing soon. This has given me a taste of the character and I can't wait to see what happens next
review 2: This book goes on the shelf next to Lespada and the Dragonblade trilogy as one of my favorite Kathryn Le Veque stories. The elements of family, true friendship and love shine brightly in this story. The Wellesbourn family, the friendship between Matthew and Gaston, the love between Matthew and Alixandrea. This story makes my heart burst with joy and happiness. I like all of the characters in this story and am not disappointed at all that she did not put more depth to the villains. The villains were necessary but not the focus of the story. The focus of the story was the relationships that Matthew had with his family, his friends and his wife. I love Matthew and Alixandrea as well as the other Wellesbourn boys. Most especially I liked Gaston. He was a truly honorable man. Matthew was as well and I am not taking anything away from him. The story gave several good detailed examples of how Gaston is the type of friend we all wish we had. He went the extra mile to find Alix when she wandered off. He stayed and helped when they were trying to bring her fever down. Gaston and Mark are good contrasting characters as it pertains to how one views the situation they find themselves in. Both of them were in marriages they did not want. Both envied the love between Matthew and Alixandrea. Gaston chose to show love, kindness and protection while Mark decided to be resentful and hurtful. Mark, being Matthew's fleshly brother, should have shown love and a protective spirit toward Alix. Instead he showed indifference that could have lead to her death when she ran off. He showed by his actions that his feelings were more important than Matthew's. He allowed his brother to suffer not knowing what had happened to Alix. Contrastly Gaston sacrificed his dignity before the King of England by refusing to bring Alix to him behind Matthew's back and suffered the humiliation of the King taking Gaston's wife instead. Twice. He loved his friend Matthew so much that he refused to allow Alix to be harmed. Gaston saved Alix several times in several ways. He was considerate to her feelings and served to protect her. In all he did, it was for his friend. In no way was he trying to take her from Matthew. He was being a better "brother" to Matthew than Mark was. I would love to read Gaston de Russe's story. At one point I thought I read on Kathryn's web site that she had written his story but that is was over 700 pages. No problem Kathryn. With guys like Matthew and Gaston I would read thousands of pages. less
