review 1: This was a fast paced and easy to read thriller. I thought this book was closer to the writing style of her earlier books thank goodness! Dr. Tempe Brennan, forensic anthropologist, is called in to identify the remains of a person found in a barrel at a NASCAR racing venue. The plot thickens when the FBI confiscate the body. Ricin poisoning, the uncovering of a cold case and a threat to her life are all part of the story. This is a good holiday read as it has short snappy chapters and an engaging story.
review 2: I don't know if I could come up with a subject I am less interested in (at least throughout the entire Temperance Brennan series) than women in NASCAR. The history of women in the pseudo-sport part was okay, but I really couldn't care less about N... moreASCAR in general. Of course, had I read the blurb about the book I would have saved myself from slogging through this book. My stubbornness reared up and I just *had* to finish. The baddie was painfully obvious, there was too much talk about Tempe's almost-ex-husband's future nuptials. I found myself begging for more Birdie to find something remotely interesting to read. This book is definitely going to the bottom of the series, something I didn't think could happen after finishing "Cross Bones" aka, Kathy Reichs version of "the da Vinci Code". less

Flash & Bones Good information on the forensic study of bones written to keep the readers interested. This one takes place Charlotte and the body is stuff in a barrel with cement pour over it. Tempe starts to prepare the body only to have the FBI seize and destroy it. Who was the body and why the FBI has blocked all efforts to find out. This takes during Race Week at the Speedway. The forensic detail are quite detail.

Possibly one of the best books in the series, really enjoyed the way this one was solved.
