review 1: I really really really liked this book. I wouldn't say I loved it but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were. And the storyline kept me hooked. There were times the story went in directions I wasn't expecting but that was a pleasant surprise. What was interesting about the husband was at you didn't know if you should love him or hate him, have empathy for him or despise him. Ana was an amazing character who I think so many women could relate to. There are often unsaid thoughts and feelings women have about motherhood and she just came out and said what many of us would be afraid to. She was courageous and brave and didn't succumb to pressures. Excellent writing I loved it!
review 2: Oh, this book, this book. There's everything in here - John Irving-esque
... moretragedy, insightful observances about adult life and love, nostalgic hometown Toronto moments, and a poignant, slightly-starker-than-real mirror held up to the face of any woman who's ever wondered about her capacity to be mother. Even where the story diverged from my own, it gripped me and kept me compelled with the characters (so, so familiar) and their very real, however implausible, story. less
