review 1: Antique shop owner Sarah Gallagher was standing in the midst of a disaster, her home destroyed by a fire when novelist Tucker Mackenzie found her. Sarah knew Tucker searched for her to find the answers that haunted him for years. It wasn’t long before they realized Sarah’s life was in jeopardy, they were on the run in a desperate race to discover who the shadows were and why Sarah. Her psychic abilities had changed and strengthened, she was frightened by the visions and voices. Tucker’s discovery of a large number of missing or murdered psychics reinforced the theory of a conspiracy, but to what end. At every turn Sarah and Tucker were located barely escaping in time, they were coming for Sarah and coming hard.“The First Prophet” was the first book in a series. I... moret was well-written with an intriguing story using paranormal abilities to lure me in; I followed along as the suspense grew more intense. Never quite sure where the story was going kept me reading as I tried to piece together the mystery. I must admit while there were plenty of characters, there was not enough development of the characters to connect emotionally. The addition of paranormal information was interesting and useful in reading this book.
review 2: Someone's targeting psychics. Sarah woke up from a coma and found herself to by psychic. Now she is being hunted too. Her house burns down one day and it just happened that Tucker MacKenzie, a writer, was coming to see her that day. He is searching for some answers from his past, but has not been able to find out through official means. But he is also skeptical about side show physics. Is she the genuine article? At first this seemed to be an interesting story line. But then it got bogged down, frequently, with self-introspection of the characters. Rehashing the same thoughts over and over. Page after page of filler. So boring. The cover blurb says the good guys that are helping Sarah are FBI. No where in this book is there even a hint they are FBI, or any inkling of who they are. Not even whether they are some non-profit organization or any other kind of clue. What is there motivation? Why should they care.SPOILER ALERT (do not read next paragraph)They get away from the bad guys, but the author does not tell who they are or what they want. I can understand setting up for the next book in the series, but she did not bother to end this one. This is extremely unsatisfying. I cannot believe I stuck it out through the whole book. The premise of someone hunting down and killing psychics was already sketchy. What did the author run out of pages. This may be the last of her books I read. I don't mind the paranormal feel of the books, but I don't like a bad story. less
