review 1: Very good, satisfying read! I love Horatio Hornblower BBC series and in some ways this book reminds me of them. I like Kaye Dacus’s writing style. The story sucked me in from the very beginning and it was hard to stop reading. A helpless romantic in me wishes there would be more of a romance but I think the way relationships were portrayed is very realistic. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series as well as other books by this author.
review 2: I was surprised by this trilogy. I had expected romance, but was pleasantly surprised to find more action, adventure and finding faith than there was romance. While I don't know anything about ships and war during the early 19th century, Kaye Dacus made it seem real and didn't romanticize the duties ... moreand life aboard the ship or while living in England or Jamaica. I couldn't put the three books down until I had finished them all. less
