review 1: Ehhh... I only made it half way through this one. Sukel is obviously very knowledgeable about neuroscience but less knowledgeable about making neuroscience fun (a difficult task, I admit). She really sticks to the technical jargon, so much so that I feel people without a strong science background would get lost. And part of that commitment to science is that nothing is ever proven, just not disproven. No definite conclusions are made about what all this research means, which makes for good science but boring reading. I also was frustrated at times that these researchers were spending so much time and money getting MRIs of people watching porn, instead of you know, curing Alzheimer's or something more important. But I guess that's why I'm in medical school and not a Phd stu... moredent.
review 2: Love? Lust? Attraction? Monogamy? Apparently it's all in your head. Literally. Even in the midst of all the scientific jargon, Sukel explains the workings of the brain in regards to love and the like in a simple and humorous way. If you're interested at all in the hypothesized whys in to what we feel and do (and why we're more like prairie voles than you think), this is a great read. less
