review 1: This book started out great. I loved so much about it but by the end of the book I couldn't reconcile the changes in the MCs. They were both so out of character. Here's my take:Kurt started out so strong despite having lost his partner and began helping Davy whether he wanted the help or not. He came in, took over, started to get Davy's life back on track and became a friend first. Kurt loved taking care of Davy and it helped fill a void for him that he seemed to have from being the youngest of his family. In the end, Kurt was distraught over coming to terms with being gay and that wasn't a problem for me the problem was that his take charge cop nature disappeared and he turned needy (the texting, what?) and uncertain where in the beginning I would have thought that d... moreespite coming to terms with being gay he would really try to talk out his issues with Davy and not let Davy give him the silent treatment. Yes, they both needed some time to resolve their issues but at the expense of stomping all over their developed characteristics? No. Could have been done better.Davy started out really needing the help. He just couldn't put his life back together and he had really been emotionally abused by Ben. To me I saw this as his character being more submissive in nature and needing someone like Kurt in his life. Not to emotionally abuse him-just to care and love him, support him. My problem with Davy was that he was so sexually dominant. Not who tops and bottoms but just with his words and the way he spoke. With everything else in the beginning it seemed out of character. Would the domineering Ben take over Davy's life everywhere but in their bedroom? Gosh, it could have been so good. It was all there but fell apart with the characters for me.
review 2: An interesting tale. Just enough police procedural to identify Kurt as a police officer while keeping the story focused on his relationship with Davy. I appreciated the steady progression of the MCs relationship and even Kurt's exploration seemed very natural. I appreciate the author including therapy for both of these men....sometimes all the LOVE in the world can't fix everything. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. less
