review 1: This started off pretty good, but I must say, I felt kind of let down at the end. It was rather...anticlimactic? I was intrigued by the friendship between Hunter, Chance, and Ashlin. I liked the the vibe of the book, and I was breezing through it quickly. Then about three quarters in, it lost that vibe and by the end, unfortunately, lost me. I kind of wish it would've only been in Hunter or Ashlin's point of view, instead of alternating between.
review 2: Hunter and Ashlin put college on hold for a year so they can spend time with their father in Maine. Ash is Hunter’s half sister and neither lives with their Dad but both love to spend summers with their father and have grown extremely fond of one another. But this year of hiatus from school is not so much a
... more need to see their father as a desire to spend time with an elusive and amazing friend whom they have not seen in a few years due to their father’s recuperation from a serious injury. Chance, this mutual friend to both Ash and Hunt, is mysterious and fun-loving; always showing up suddenly and later disappearing. As Hunt and Ash spend more time with Chance during this summer, they begin to suspect he may be more than just a friend and that he has kept secrets that involve serious problems. York weaves this tragic story masterfully. The mystery is slow to unfold and the romantic yearning is tender and touching. Chance has a hold on both Hunt and Ash, fascinating them with his infectious charm and passion for life. When a tragedy happens, Chance is in trouble and Hunt and Ash want to help him. But what is the truth about him? He has told so many lies over the years that even Hunt and Ash don’t know what is going on. All they know is they must find him and protect him. This is the story of Chance, a fragile, sad, secretive, sweet, fun boy who breaks your heart. less
