Calendar Girls #4: Best Contemporary Novel.

*comes out of a rock* Hey guys, how are you? Please don’t hate me! I know missed last month’s Calendar Girls, and I feel so bad, my life was pretty chaotic and I’am slowly coming back into blogging and reading (I haven’t read a new book in a month, I AM DYING SEND HELP). So here’s the girls’ picks for Best Historical Romance, they’re all pretty amazing!

Flavia – The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue  by Mackenzi Lee
Melanie – The Devil’s Queen by Jeanne Kalogridis
Katie – The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy
Adrienne – The Dark Days Club by Alison Goodman
Shanah – City of Thieves by David Benioff
Lauren – Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Mandy – Out of the Easy by Ruta Septeys
Dawlyn & Krista – The Book Thief by Markus Zusack
Sophie – Fall of Giants by Ken Follet
Deanna – The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

Calendar Girls is a blog event hosted by the bloggers Melanie Noell Bernard and Flavia the Bibliophile, inspired by Neil Sedaka’s 1961 song Calendar Girl. Just like in the song, they decided to use a specific theme for each month and choose a book based on these themes! The event is meant to incite discussions with other bloggers about books we’ve read and loved, to help bloggers interact with other bloggers, and also for bloggers and readers to find out about blogs which they normally may not have come across! If you’d like to know more you can check here and here.

September’s theme is Best Contemporary Novel

This month’s theme is not only my favorite genre but one of the most popular ones as well, so there are about a billion books to pick from, so let’s just say I have a lot of feelings about this okay? Before I tell you what book I choose, I’ll quickly run through all of the other books that could totally have been my pick.

Overruled (The Legal Briefs #1) by Emma Chase — this is kind of a guilty pleasure since I know everyone thinks this book is at the very end of the list of Emma Chase’s books, but look, this was the first book I’ve read with a decent brazilian rep dude, it’s not perfect, there are some portuguese mistakes, but it stuck with me and I’ll love it forever.

Illegal Contact (The Barons #1) by Santino Hassell — Hassell never disappoints me with his stories man, I just love everything he writes, and this one was no different. +review.

The King of Bourbon Street (NOLA Nights #1) by Thea de Salle —  related to this book waaaay more than I should, but really it’s fantastic and I could read it a thousand times and not get tired of it. +review.

Black Rainbow (Rainbows #1) by J.J. McAvoy — this has everything I want in a romance novel, age gap, “shouldn’t be together” relationship, badass couple, diversity and great writing. Seriously, so freaking amazing!

Fast Connection (Cyberlove #2) by Megan Erickson & Santino Hassell — talking about everything one could possibly want from a novel, my favorite writers came together to write the best m/m romance series to ever grace this earth. And this masterpiece is what we got from it, the whole series is amazing tbh, but this one is still my #1.

Better At Weddings Than You (Chic Manila #9) by Mina V. Esguerra — go! read! this! book! Seriously, just do it! It’s so incredible I can’t even believe how much I love it, you won’t regret picking this up, I swear! +review.

Far From You by Tess Sharpe — oh my goodness, this book! this. book. seriously one of the best books I’ve ever read, I’m so in love with it. Also the first f/f book I’ve ever read, what a awakening. +6 reasons to read it.

Now to my pick of the best contemporary novel, drum-roll please…

Pretty Face (London Celebrities #2) by Lucy Parker.
Holy shit, I can’t believe I actually picked one! Yay! But seriously though, this book has my soul wrapped around it, not even kidding. I love everything about it, it’s just that fantastic.

✓ AGE GAP! The heroine has 26 years old and the hero has 40 years old (hot silver fox, hello)
✓ She’s the new actress in a play he’s directing so it’s ~forbidden~
✓ They make excuses to touch each other A LOT! And I live for it!
✓ Hate to love relationship!!!!!

I know all of the books I’ve mentioned seems to be very basic and romance centered, and that’s not all contemporary is about, but what can I do? I’m a hopeless romantic *dreamy sigh*

So, what about you guys? What’s your favorite Contemporary Novel?
