review 1: I've been a fan of Ken Bruen for some time - I usually spend a fortnight in Galway every year, so his novels resonate with me. This book is typical Bruen. It can be read in one setting - if the type format was more traditional it would be a very short book indeed. I was disappointed with this effort. It could have been a much better book, I think, if the author had not written it as if speed was of the essence.
review 2: This is my first Ken Bruen book. I discovered his favorite character, Jack Taylor, on a three-episode TV series on Netflix. The actor who plays Jack is one I like very much and I enjoyed the shows. I placed some of Bruen's novels on hold at the library and they all came in at once. ... moreence, not in it. Bruen's writing style is very similar to Robert Parker's, and I like them both. Short and sweet -- or really more dark and violent. The mystery is good, but I didn't care much for the ending, unless there is a sequel, which I would like to read. less
