review 1: While it didn't grab me as much as I was expecting, this short story takes an inherently emotional idea (destruction of Earth by giant meteor/tiny group of survivors bound for new solar system) and earns its title through a series of complex and contemplative emotional beats. I read this story over a few very brief subway-ride sittings, and would instead recommend doing it all in one sitting. Ken Liu has previously distinguished himself as a master of emotional short SF (in particular, "The Paper Menagerie") and "Mono No Aware" does not disappoint.

... morece was a setting that felt real and very possible. It's setting was the strongest aspect of the story and would have kept me reading if it were a novella. Ken Liu's story has however turned me onto a new voice in science fiction. less
