review 1: This is a continuation of the narrative framework that Kevin O'Malley set up in Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude. Two competing narrators take turns telling the adventures of a royal family. The male narrator is very into comic book variety machismo, while the female narrator is very into Disneyesque happy fairy tale storytelling. The two styles clash again and again and somehow meld into a coherent story that acts as a strange marriage of two seemingly opposite narrators’ visions. It all works out in the end. Somehow, they both end up being happy with the result through reluctant compromise.
review 2: I love these stories by Kevin O'Malley. The first book is Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude. I have read this book to 1st grade school classes before and they... more loved it. This book is also as enjoyable. I would put an age on the book from 6-10 year olds would probably enjoy it. The book is about a boy and a girl who have to write a story together. So you get a compilation of their two stories while they are telling the story. I love these books! less
